Under the current Rules of Golf, if you strike the ball more than once in the course of a stroke (i.e. a double hit), you take a one-stroke penalty in addition to the stroke that was made. However, under the proposed changes, if you accidentally hit the ball more than once in the course of a stroke, there is no penalty (new Rule 10.1a). This is because the R&A thought it was unfair and unnecessary to penalise a player for an accidental strike. All in all, a sensible amendment to the current Rules of Golf in our opinion.
